“The old believe everything; the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything.”

—Oscar Wilde

Future Lovers is an exercise in imagining the future. We are working with teenagers and exploring new ways of seeing the world, focusing on the constant changes in human relationships. There’s a lot of talk about how the new world of technology is changing the ways in which we relate to each other, communicate, touch, love one another. We’d like to hear about all this from a group of teenagers who talk to each other and to the world.

We conceive of the stage as a place for resistance and investigation. If it’s not easy for us to find situations in which to relate in real and profound ways to teenagers—the future leaders and future lovers—then we’d like to do so on the stage, attempting to create a shared experience that, with any luck, will show us something about our past and our future.
